22 Piece Starter Set (also known as Instant System Number 2, Instant System Set 2, and Instant System Set No. 2) is a set first produced by Early Learning Centre initially as a mail-in order item for Christmas. It was first sold in plain track, then in Clickity-Clack track in 1995.

Trivia[]

  • The prototype 1992 22 Piece Starter Set seen in the mail-in order advertisement features Thomas and the Troublesome Truck with large red wheels, and the Special Engine Shed with plain brick detailing and no windows. This version is in possession of Roy Wilson. The prototype Thomas featured in the advertisement also has an ERTL Thomas face.
  • The second prototype 1993 22 Piece Starter Set features a Workman included instead of a Driver, a Stop Sign instead of a second Railroad Crossing Sign, and a mirrored version of the track layout.
  • Both versions of the 22 Piece Starter Set feature a 4" Straight Track after the Special Engine Shed Switch Track which does not lead to anything.
  • Unlike all other sets sold at the time, this set was not updated to include Clickity-Clack track in 1994, therefore being the only way to get plain track in 1994.
